RICE Scoring Discipline with AI: Catch the Silent Overrides

RICE — Reach, Impact, Confidence, Effort — gives product teams a common language for prioritisation. But frameworks don't make decisions; people do, and the failure modes are human: reach numbers invented on the spot, every idea scoring high confidence, effort estimated by people who won't build it, and final decisions that quietly ignore the scores without anyone saying why.

Ask Loopion Coach audits the discipline from the meeting itself. It checks whether estimates had sources, whether confidence was honestly discounted where evidence was thin, whether effort came from the people who'll do the work — and then the real test: were the decisions consistent with the scores, and where the team overrode a score, was an explicit reason given and recorded?

What the Coach scores — element by element

Ask Loopion Coach evaluates RICE the way a rigorous practitioner would: each element scored Strong / Partial / Missing, each judgement backed by a quote or specific moment from the real conversation — never a single overall number with no breakdown.

Reach

Was the number of users/accounts affected estimated with a source — analytics, support volume, sales asks — or invented on the spot?

Impact

Was per-user impact argued with evidence — conversion data, churn drivers, revenue at stake — on a consistent scale, not 'this feels big'?

Confidence

Did the team honestly discount scores where evidence was thin? A team whose confidence is always high isn't using Confidence.

Effort

Did estimates come from — or get sanity-checked by — the people who will build it, in consistent units?

The discipline test

Were final decisions consistent with the scores? Where the team overrode a score, was an explicit reason given and recorded? Silent overrides and pet projects that skipped scoring get flagged.

The failure patterns it catches

Frameworks fail quietly. These are the patterns the Coach flags specifically — with the evidence quoted, so the coaching conversation starts from facts rather than recollections:

  • !

Pet projects that entered the roadmap without ever being scored

  • !

Uniformly high confidence scores — a sign the dimension has become decorative

  • !

Effort estimates given by managers and never sanity-checked by the builders

  • !

Decisions that contradict the ranking with no recorded rationale — the silent override pattern

What you can ask

The Coach lives inside Ask Loopion. Ask in plain language — about one call, one person, one deal, or the whole team across a quarter:

💬

Audit today's roadmap meeting against RICE

💬

Which items were decided against their score without a stated reason?

💬

Did any reach estimates have an actual source?

💬

Has any idea ever scored low confidence, or is the dimension decorative?

💬

Which committed items skipped scoring entirely?

Who uses it

Product leaders use RICE auditing to keep prioritisation honest as teams scale; PMs use the evidence to defend roadmap decisions to stakeholders; product ops tracks predicted-vs-actual impact to calibrate future scoring.

How the platform backs it up

1

Every meeting captured

Loopion joins your Teams and Zoom meetings automatically and transcribes them in 99 languages — the Coach evaluates real conversations, not self-reported summaries.

2

Evidence, not opinion

Every score is backed by a quote or specific moment from the transcript. You can check every judgement.

3

Coaching that gets executed

Evaluations end with concrete actions — and Loopion's carry-forward brings unfinished coaching actions back into future meetings until they're done.

4

Defaults per team

Set RICE as the default framework for the right team in Settings → Ask Loopion Coaching, and every evaluation automatically uses it.

5

Or bring your own

Workspaces can define custom frameworks — your in-house methodology, scorecard or rubric — and the Coach evaluates against your criteria with the same element-by-element rigour.
